The mental health care is available for children and adults of all ages. Unfortunately, many people do not seek attention for several reasons. This lack of treatment can lead to a worsening of the disease, impaired physical and mental health, legal problems, marital breakdown, job loss substance abuse and suicide. People with mental health problems should be encouraged by family and friends to seek appropriate care.
A study published in 2007 entitled “Perception of barriers to the use of mental health services in the United States, Ontario and the Netherlands” reported that attitudinal barriers tend to be because Americans do not seek mental health care. These barriers include the belief that mental illness will resolve itself and not believe that psychiatric care is beneficial. Continue reading “Seeking mental health care”
