Decide what time of day you want to eat and how often. Some people prefer to stick to the traditional three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). However, many people believe it is better to eat 5 or 6 smaller meals throughout the day to keep the metabolism active and help eliminate the craving for snacks.

Creates a diet plan that best fits your needs. Your diet plan should consist of a variety of healthy foods, including fruits, grains and vegetables. You should reduce the intake of saturated fats, sugar and carbohydrates reducing the amount of desserts, red meat, white bread, pasta and soda. Try to eat less fattening foods that are high in protein (such as poultry, eggs, fish, beans, peas and nuts).

I eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Be sure to add a variety of fruits and vegetables to your diet plan and use the right size portions. For example, a serving of fruit or vegetables is equivalent to about 1 medium fruit (apple, orange, etc …), 1/4 cup dried fruit or 1 cup of raw leafy vegetables. There are many types of fruit, such as whole, cut, fresh, dried, canned or frozen.

Includes 2 to 3 servings of dairy products in your diet. This may include items such as milk, cheese and yogurt, and a cup of milk or yogurt and 1 1/2 ounces (42 grams) of natural cheese. Be sure to choose low fat dairy products.

Drink plenty of water every day. You should drink 8 glasses of 8 ounces (225 milliliters) of water each day. Water is good for you as it helps to keep the body clean and removes toxins and waste. Drinking water also reduces fluid retention in the body. You may need to consume more water if you’re physically active, you are pregnant or have a high weight.
